New "Graphic Secrets for Business" class helps ordinary people gain creative savvy

Dec. 12, 2006

"It's the most wonderful time, of the year..." Can you believe it's almost Macworld Expo time again? The year has flown by and many wonderful things have happened. Aside from moving to Westport, CT where I can more fully support David Pogue in his various projects, I'm proud to announce that I'll be teaching several classes at Macworld Expo in San Francisco this coming January. One of which is a two-day intensive seminar called Graphic Secrets for Business in the PowerTools track, January 8-9.

All kinds of people — sole proprietors, managers, and administrative assistants — create presentations and other business documents daily, and most have zero graphics training. I designed this class to help those who weren’t trained as graphic artists learn how to easily use creative tools to engage their audiences and communicate their messages successfully in a variety of ways, in a variety of software.

This new course, the first of its kind offered in the PowerTools track at Macworld, is designed to help business professionals utilize OS X tools to add stunning touches to their business communications. Topics to be covered include:

  • the top 10 design tips for the design challenged
  • understanding and managing image resolution,
  • adding graphics to Word and Excel documents,
  • creating presentations that pop,
  • how to share business documents and master PDFs,
  • the skinny on image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Paul Kent, Macworld Conference & Expo General Manager said, "Getting your message across with impact is an essential skill in business. Lesa's new course will help business professionals with even novice graphic skills communicate better. Attendees will leave this class with a new toolkit that will help their business effectiveness."

I'm also tickled to announce that three companies have pledged their support for the new class and are donating prizes. Attendees are eligible to win a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements, The Non-Designers Design Book by Robin Williams (Peachpit Press), along with t-shirts, hats, and a credit package redeemable for royalty-free images from iStockphoto.

I've enjoyed great success with the podcast I recently launched of the same name and am thrilled to have a chance to teach these techniques live and in person. Come to learn practical techniques you'll use everyday! A big thanks to Paul Kent for taking a chance on this new kind of class.

You'll also catch me teaching Presentations that POP! in the Users Conference track, and Stock that Rocks in the User Group Lounge.

Hope to see you there!
