About Lesa > Why Macworld Rocks
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Dec. 5, 2008

If you were to ask me what my favorite week of the year is, the answer may shock you. It's not Christmas, my birthday, or any kind of vacation. My favorite week of the year is whatever week in January upon which Macworld Expo falls. Seriously! Yes it's incredibly (frighteningly?) geeky but let me give you a few reasons why:
1. I'm a honkin' big MacMac. For those of you who've no idea what that term means, it's generally reserved for someone who has: a) Imbibed the Apple koolaid and buys every product they make just because they make it, b) puts Apple stickers on every vehicle they drive, c) has an Apple tattoo, etc. etc. I proudly answer yes to all three.
2. I get to hang out with folks in the Mac User Group community. When I bought my first Mac back in 1995, I immediately sought out my local Mac User Group and got involved. Long story short, I ended up running the Cowtown Mac User Group in Fort Worth, TX for years, I volunteered for Apple at Macworld for years, I met David Pogue and Scott Kelby and started working for them both which jump-started my career. How cool is that?!
3. I get to see friends from all over the world. Since I travel a lot with my job and spend so much time online, most of my friends are scattered all over the globe. Thankfully, we've all got one thing in common: a love for the Mac. Macworld is the one and only time I get to see those folks and it's like one big reunion.
4. Shawn King hosts one of the largest and longest-running Macworld parties: The Your Mac Life Rocks Expo party. We hire the *best* band in the country, Paul Kent's own Silicon Valley House Rockers, we stock the bar (usually Slim's) with tons of booze and food, including a yearly replica of our wedding cake! It's the most fun I've ever had.
5. This is my 10th year of attending expo, and I still get goose bumps when I walk onto the expo show floor. It's so nice to see all the fun products that are for my Mac!
6. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the US. It's beautiful, there's tons to do, great food to eat, and amazing wine to drink. Heck, that should be reason enough to go right there :)
I could drone on and on, but the main reason I wrote this little diddy was to get you excited about going even though the economy is terrible, and to let you know that my class schedule is now set. Even if you don't pay for a pass to the conference tracks, you can still come hang out with me and learn a few tips and tricks (and hopefully pick up my new book, Photoshop CS4: The Missing Manual!). Here's the scoop:
