A day with the Yankees
Shawn's birthday was coming up fast and I after much searching on the vast Internet ("it's just a series of tubes...") I actually found him an English Bulldog puppy. Unfortunately, I didn't have the guts nor the cold hard cash to actually buy it (I'm a bit of a commitment-phobe, plus Puppies of Westport wanted $3,200 which I thought was steep unless the dog actually makes coffee and performs other such butler services). In a rare moment of brilliance, I decided to take him to a Yankees game (click the picture to see the whole photo gallery). The tickets were really overpriced but we'd never been and it would be an experience soon not to be repeated (they're building a new stadium). Within two minutes of buying the tickets online and printing the PDF I had to tell him, and he was as excited as I'd hoped. We made a day of it, doing the stadium tour at 1:00 pm, drinking at a pub across the street until batting practice, and then finally settling in for the 7:00 game. We loaded up with Yankees logo gear (it was kind of cold so my sweatshirt purchase was justified!) and had a fantastic time. I got into yelling for Jeter every time he stepped up to bat (he is very handsome, after all) and I joined everyone else in booing (is that a word?) the umpire who made a terrible call at 2nd plate. Unfortunately the Yankees lost but we'll be back--in some slightly cheaper--seats soon.
FYI, I wore my Yankees sweatshirt to the airport the next day and I *swear* people were nicer to me!!!

Lesa, i didn't know you were a Yankees fan! Glad to hear it! Next time you're in DC during baseball season, I'll have to treat you guys to a Nationals game (they're not the Yanks, but we're getting a new stadium too!).
Thank goodness you didn't buy the Bulldog at Puppies of Westport. These are all puppy mill puppies, the majority coming from Missouri mills. High priced puppies are no guarantee of quality. The store owners are laughing all the way to the bank for a puppy that was bought from a mill for $100-200. Ask around at the local vets, so many puppies coming from there are very sick, developing pneumonia that has in some instances been fatal. For an example of one of this store's breeders, watch the Humane Society video at www.stoppuppymills.org - it was an undercover investigation of the Pets of Bel Air puppy store. One of the breeders on this video, Carol's Puppy Palace, sells puppies to Puppies of Westport. I hope you'll spread the word that this is not a good way to "get" a puppy.....find yourself a great local breeder! Regards, Karen
Yes, it's a good thing you didn't buy a pup from a pet store! Google pet shop puppies and see the thousands of sites telling the true story of the source of pet shop pups. Oprah recently did a show on it, too! Check out her website! This one, too...
